Dear Partners in Tourism

I was in Cape Town recently to participate in the Cape Town marathon. What was significant about the event, was that it was one of the first mass participation sporting event in South Africa since COVID19 hit. Although it was a scaled down version with appropriate protocols, the event still had around 9000 participants and showed that such an event can safely be held in the country. This should give some confidence & reassurance to any international tourists considering travelling to our shores in the near future.

The Cape Town Cycle Race took place the weekend prior and although with less participants than the marathon, it was also a significant sporting event in the road to recovery and a form of normalcy – and highlights that the tourism product and the destination is ready & prepared for international tourists.

Luckily South Africa is now also in a phase where our daily new cases are at a lower point than any other time during the pandemic. This would further add to assurances for tourists considering the destination for travel in the immediate future.

While I was in the Cape, I had a look at some product – a few comments for your reference and knowledge:

President Hotel:

This well-known Cape Town hotel has had a few ups & downs over the last couple of years. Considering the most recent changes & refurbishments we’re once again comfortable in suggesting the property for our clients.

Few hotels in Cape Town has such a large pool and with the added ‘resort feel’ associated to this. For specific market segments and source markets, this definitely adds to the appeal.

The changes resulted in a refreshed version with a contemporary feel while incorporating visual images unique to South Africa throughout the hotel.

Steenberg Hotel & Spa:

Located in the Constantia Valley on the outskirts of Cape Town, the hotels straddles many segments – golf estate hotel, wine estate hotel, outdoors-yet-close-to-the city, a relaxing retreat, a honeymooners haven yet also a surprisingly family friendly option.

Traditional Cape Dutch historical buildings are scattered in ample & carefully tended gardens. The interiors & rooms also pay homage to the history & heritage of the estate but done in a delightfully modern manor – sleek lines, an almost Nordic design ethos but with calming yet fresh colour tones. A marriage of heritage & contemporary can also be found at the on-site restaurants & other facilities.

I’m sure guests from our diverse market-base will find the hotel a delightful addition to our recommended product selection.

Boschendal Werf Suites:

Most of our clientbase would be well familiar with the Boschendal brand – specifically for their wine tasting and picnic lunches. The superb accommodation offering on the estate is however often unfortunately overlooked.

Boschendal Werf Garden Suites takes farm-stay chic & sophisticated to a new level. It takes a special effort to make things look unpretentious yet so carefully considered that each piece of furniture & accessory perfectly fits the brief on purpose, design, comfort & luxury. The focus on detail is impeccable and will surprise and delight any guest. Spectacular views will sipping a glass of chilled Boschendal wine add to the sensory experience!

Southern Sun De Wagen:

The latest addition in the Stellenbosch accommodation offering is most certainly making an impression. The boutique hotel offers only 22 rooms spread across three adjacent buildings. Although the hotel is using the footprint of the 3 historical buildings, the interiors and rooms are all ‘new built’ quality and you should have no concerns about 100 year old plumbing at this hotel! The interiors and rooms are tasteful & stylish yet cosy & comfortably. The hotel is the ideal base to explore Stellenbosch from as it is within easy walking distance from the centre of town, located adjacent to the well-known & historical Volkskombuis restaurant. Southern Sun De Wagen is heritage in a new offering of value, style & sophistication.

I hope this brief update helps awaken the desires & yearnings of travel to South Africa.
